    Secret Reception Outfits!

Bride and Groom’s names: Hayley and Zazanya

Bride & groom reception outfitsST:  What was the special occasion you were trying to find dresses for? What designs did you have in mind?

H&Z: We were looking for reception dresses for our wedding. We wanted to use the family color, crimson, and new that a half saree was what I needed to get, since my husbands family is South Indian. What we didn’t expect was for my husband to find his outfit that matched perfectly! As much as everyone loved my wedding dress, our reception outfits stole the show! We kept our change of clothes a secret and got to surprise everyone when we walked in to the reception venue.

ST: What brought you to Silk Threads?

H&Z: We drove 3 hours to look for outfits, and heard AMAZING things about Silk Threads and their expertise. As soon as we walked in, we knew we’d never go anywhere else for our occasion wear. Ruby sat with us for at least an hour going through every detail of our day and what would be best for us. Her attention to detail was everything! Her commitment to making sure everything was perfect and came in on time for our big day meant so much to us. And just in time, everything came in and fit perfectly!

ST: What do you like the most about Silk Threads and its staff?

H&Z:: Everyone was so kind and ready to help us at every turn, including all of my calls to make sure everything was coming in for the wedding day.

ST:  Any tips for our readers?

H&Z:: I would recommend going in with an open mind. My husband was pretty stubborn about wearing pink, but listened to Ruby and was so thankful in the end. I had some knowledge about Indian occasion wear but learned so much in meeting with Ruby. I decided to trust the expert and am so glad I did! It’s hands down my favorite thing I’ve ever worn!

Thank you Haley & Zazanya – we loved working with you!

    Beautiful Sikh Multicultural Wedding!

Bride and Groom’s names:  Samantha and Ravneet

Location of the wedding:  Dallas Metroplex

ST:  What was the special occasion you were trying to find dresses for? What designs did you have in mind?

SS I was looking for dresses to wear to my wedding and to my mehndi function. I knew I wanted to wear a salwar kameez for my wedding day, but beyond that I was clueless.

ST: What brought you to Silk Threads?
SS: Someone at my gurdwara recommended Ruby’s store, and my sister-in-law had searched for Indian dress shops in the area and said Silk Threads looked like the best place to start.

ST: What do you like the most about Silk Threads and its staff?
KB: I liked how helpful everyone at Silk Threads was. I am not Indian, and I knew next to nothing about Indian fashion—especially for weddings! Ruby and the team were all so great at helping me figure out what styles I wanted. I ended up bringing in my mom and sisters to get their wedding outfits from Silk Threads as well.

ST:  Any tips for our readers?
SS: If you don’t know what you want, or only have a slight idea, just ask! Silk Threads has beautiful clothes, and everyone there is very knowledgeable and helpful. We were able to order outfits for both my plus size and petite family members, and everyone looked gorgeous.

Thank you Samantha – we loved working with you!

KB: I was looking for a suit for my wedding. I knew I wanted something different but classy. I had been searching for sherwani’s for some time, however as a “big guy” it was more challenging than I anticipated.

ST: What brought you to Silk Threads?
KB: I did a Google search for some places that sell Indian attire and chose Silk Threads because the energy, helpfulness and willingness to assist a total novice was very welcoming and comforting.

ST: What do you like the most about Silk Threads and its staff?
KB: What I liked most about Silk Threads and their staff was the fact that I was given honest feedback and I felt heard. I didn’t feel like I was in another suit shop with a person just trying to make a sale. The Silk Threads team really cares about what you want.

ST:  Any tips for our readers?
KB: Main tip, if you are on a weightless or health journey, be mindful that the alterations can be done, but its best to communicate your journey so they can help you accomplish the style goal you desire.

Thank you Ken – we loved working with you!

wedding in the skyThe Dubai-based NRI family that owns the diamond jewelry brand – Popley and Sons – founded in 1927, has a history of weddings in the sky. The bride’s father, Dilip Popley, had got married on an Air India flight between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in 1994. Organized by Air India with approval from the regulatory bodies, the inflight wedding was the first such historic event in the world of aviation. When Dilip’s father approached the then national carrier for an unconventional wedding, the airline responded, “The Sky is the limit.”

The wedding event on Air India’s A310, which made headlines as “Hawai Bandhan”, was such a lavish affair that celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor had designed the menu for the guests. “My wedding in the air was my dad’s dream. He wanted to get me married on an Air India plane. Now I am carrying his dream to another level with my daughter’s wedding on a B747 aircraft,” said Dilip Popley with pride. The guests for the Vidhi-Hridesh wedding on B747 were handed over boarding passes designed with traditional motifs of Indian wedding. The groom wearing a cream-colored sherwani and the bride wearing a red lehenga with delicate golden work arrived in a red Ferrari at a private terminal in South Dubai where their close family members and friends received them in an impressive manner. They boarded the aircraft decorated with exotic flowers inside for a 3-hour flight cum wedding ceremony.

Indian fashion designers face eco-chic dilemma

At last month’s Lakmé Fashion Week in India, conversations about making fashion more sustainable took centre-stage. But are the country’s designers ready for this?

The four-day event – organised jointly by beauty company Lakmé, billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Brands and the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) – is one of Indian fashion’s biggest highlights.

While it had all the essential ingredients – glittering catwalks, clinking wine glasses and fashionistas in the front row – what grabbed eyeballs was a competition encouraging young designers to use eco-friendly materials to create outfits. The event is part of a wider ambition among Indian designers aiming to make sustainability the driving factor of their businesses.

Recent times have seen a resurgence in brown hues with actresses like Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor to even Kendall and Kylie Jenner stepping out in a peculiar shade of brown. Once considered an unflattering colour associated with a librarian’s wardrobe (before Prada popularised the librarian chic phenomenon), it has slowly risen the ranks of the colour hierarchy to be considered, now, even a red-carpet option.

  • Saree Styles Stealing the Spotlight: Embracing the Latest Trends in Indian Fashion

Saree Styles Stealing the Spotlight: Embracing the Latest Trends in Indian Fashion

In the colorful tapestry of Indian fashion, the saree has always held a special place, weaving together tradition and trend. As we step into the latest fashion season, let’s explore the mesmerizing world of Indian sarees and uncover the trends that are currently stealing the spotlight.

    1. Contemporary Weaves: Modern Indian sarees are increasingly embracing contemporary weaves and textures. Designers are experimenting with unconventional fabrics like organza, georgette, and crepe, creating sarees that are not only lightweight but also exude an understated elegance. These fabrics allow for innovative draping styles, making sarees more versatile and suitable for various occasions.
    2. Bold Colors and Contrasts: Vibrant and bold colors are making a strong comeback in the world of Indian sarees. Traditional favorites like red, green, and blue are being reimagined in striking contrasts, creating a visually arresting effect. Whether it’s a classic Kanjeevaram with a contrasting border or a contemporary silk saree with bold geometric patterns, the trend is all about making a statement with color.
    3. Minimalistic Embellishments: The era of heavy embellishments is taking a backseat as minimalism gains prominence. Sarees adorned with delicate embroidery, sequins, or thread work are becoming increasingly popular. The focus is on craftsmanship and subtlety, allowing the saree to speak volumes without being overly ornate.
    4. Innovative Draping Styles: Draping styles are evolving beyond the traditional Nivi and Bengali styles. Fashion enthusiasts are experimenting with unique drapes that showcase the saree in a fresh light. The pre-stitched saree, dhoti saree, and pant-style saree are some of the innovative draping styles that are gaining traction, especially among the younger generation.
    5. Digital Prints and Contemporary Motifs: Traditional saree motifs are getting a modern makeover with digital prints and contemporary designs. From abstract patterns to digital art inspired by Indian culture, these sarees are a perfect blend of tradition and technology. This trend not only appeals to the younger audience but also allows for a seamless transition from day to night.
    6. Revival of Handloom Heritage: Handloom sarees are experiencing a revival, with a growing emphasis on promoting traditional weaving techniques. Banarasi, Chanderi, and Kanjeevaram sarees are not just timeless classics; they are also symbols of India’s rich handloom heritage. The trend towards sustainable and handcrafted fashion is contributing to the resurgence of these timeless weaves.
    7. Fusion Saree Gowns: Bridging the gap between traditional and contemporary, saree gowns are gaining popularity for their modern silhouette. These outfits combine the elegance of a saree with the convenience of a gown, offering a chic and hassle-free alternative for special occasions.

As we celebrate the diversity of Indian sarees, it’s evident that the latest trends are a reflection of the dynamic and evolving nature of fashion. From contemporary weaves to bold colors and innovative draping styles, the world of Indian sarees is more vibrant and exciting than ever. As fashion enthusiasts continue to embrace tradition with a modern twist, the saree remains a timeless and versatile garment that continues to capture hearts and imaginations across the globe.

Fusion Saree Gowns are available at the Silk Threads Studio in Dallas or at SilkThreads.com
