On Sunday, September 4th hundreds of people gathered around a runway in Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas, TX to watch models wearing beautiful designs  take a walk. The event was put together by Dallas International Fashion (DIF), which serves as a platform to promote multicultural diversity within and around Dallas.

DIF’s goal is to create a platform for cultures, which creates awareness for fashion and attracts foreign investment to the City of Dallas. This event serves as a part of this initiative which establishes favorable relations and cultural ties between Dallas residents and foreign Nationals – via the showcase of fashion, culture and traditions.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Hundreds of students from Fort Worth, Mansfield and Southlake took to two stages at the World-Famous Billy Bob’s Texas in the Stockyards to raise funds and awareness for True Kids 1 Media Project (TK1MP).

The building now known as Billy Bob’s Texas was built in 1910 and was once an open-air barn used to house prize cattle for the Fort Worth Stock Show.

TK1MPhas helped over 500 kids within their first six months, by empowering them with the skills and opportunity to express themselves through radio and new media production.

While the bands were playing, student models from the Bella Modeling School took the runway to show off some of the new designs from Silk Threads and its Ruby B Collection.

As the Director of True Kids 1, Andy “Rosey” Hayett said, “This was not only a juxtaposition of two forms of art – fashion and music, but also an opportunity for the kids to gain self-confidence through modeling and music – as well as learning to express themselves through art. We appreciate the support of Silk Threads to help us advance our mission of increasing the creative energy of these kids”.

  • Bridesmaids dresses – would you like to mix & match?

Bridesmaids dresses – would you like to mix & match?

We were looking at some of the recent bridal trends, and saw a somewhat odd trend around mix & matching bridesmaids dresses.

Even though it sounds counter-intuitive, and we have never received an order to make mix & match bridesmaids dresses, we can see some positive (and some negative) points around the trend.

On the plus side, you could allow the bridesmaids to use their existing dresses collecting dust in their closets – which means, they already fit, are (hopefully) based on their body type, and with minimal expense, you will earn their eternal gratitude.

However, think of the downsides – do you as the bride really want to do color-matching for all the possible combinations – which, if at all possible, can be take precious time.  In addition, if they have different embroideries or variations, that adds additional complexity…

Think of the possible effect on the pictures or videos for your lifetime memories…

    What do you think?

What do I do with this Bridesmaid dress or Saree?

Did you ever wonder why we have bridesmaids, all dressed the same, in most weddings? The tradition has now spilled over to Indian-American weddings, with interesting variations like similar sarees instead of dresses. Apparently, bridesmaids were required by law in Roman times, to be witnesses to the wedding, and to confuse the …

  • Swarovski Blings Up the Orient

    Swarovski Blings Up the Orient

(Ed: Great article on the use of Swarovski crystals in Middle East and Southeast Asia. We have been using real Swarovski crystals on quite a few of our designs and bridals, with excellent results. Please contact us to setup your free consultation)

“In India and Pakistan, Swarovski waltzes a similar balancing act as it latches onto the lucrative market of bridals and traditional-wear. The market for ethnic-wear in India, running the gamut from saris to lehngas and the shalwar kameez, is growing at an annual rate of 8 percent and is expected to reach $19.6 billion by 2018, according to a report by Indiaretailing.com. The traditional bridal lehnga, with its penchant for bling, presents an ideal canvas for Swarovski detailings.

Having gained a stronghold across India over the last two decades, Swarovski collaborations also frequently veer towards Western silhouettes that are increasingly popular in Indian cities. But what makes Swarovski so tantalising to these diverse markets across the Orient?

    Local tastes through local collaborations

The quality of the embellishments is one undeniable factor. Swarovski is a global big gun with a legacy of blinging up fashion for more than a century, so designers and customers are naturally attracted to the prestige attached to the brand. Further augmenting the firm’s popularity is its many local designer collaborations supported by assertive marketing strategies.”

Silk Threads Jacket gets rave reviews at DIFFA Dallas 2016

DIFFA Dallas sure knows how to throw a party…and raise funds for worthy charities!

Saturday, May 21st was no exception – a record crowd assembled at The Omni in downtown Dallas to mingle and enjoy the unique show – with this year’s theme being Circo Rouge – a take between a big tent circus and Moulin Rouge.

The show, designed by Rhonda Sargent Chambers and Brian Brothers ranged from cringe-worthy to awe-inspiring – from stilt walkers to models made-up as Goths to human animals. Seen at the event was LeeAnne Locken, of Real Housewives of Dallas, among other celebrities.

In addition to the live auction which featured a trip to Scotland and a vintage-inspired Stella 125 scooter, the silent auction featured 55 jackets from designers like Versace, Lanvin, Naeem Khan and others.

For the third year in a row, theSOCIALList by Silk Threads presented a jacket by designer Ruby Bhandari – this year’s jacket was a red brocade piece with black lapels – with a unique cut of the lapels.

The jacket received wide acclaim, getting over 6 bids in the first hour, and a bidding war in the final minutes. As Carol Quist, Board Member of DIFFA Dallas said, “We really appreciate Ruby Bhandari and Silk Threads for not only donating a consistently popular jacket for the third year in a row, but also their dedication to the cause”.

The Rawaj Fashion Extravaganza was held in the beautiful La Cantera Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday, May 15th. In addition to the breath-taking sweeping views of San Antonio from this hill top luxury resort, attendees were treated to five Fashion Shows showcasing diverse and renowned fashion designers.

Ruby Bhandari’s Silk Threads line provides a gorgeous juxtaposition of mystical eastern traditional designs with contemporary western lifestyle. Her custom bridal designs for private clients have dazzled countless weddings around the country for over twenty years, as well as celebrities from Hollywood and Bollywood. She showcased her ethnicwear and dress collection at Rawaj – which highlighted delicate embroideries, a bold color palette and sensuous cuts. The finale fashion show was by Dallas-based Pink Chiffon, which featured a gorgeous white piece from Pakistani designer, Ayesha Somaya.

Proceeds from Rawaj benefitted the Children’s Shelter of San Antonio, which has been providing a safe haven for child survivors of abuse, neglect, and abandonment in San Antonio since 1901. The Children’s Shelter is a trauma-informed care certified organization that provides a continuum of care through their family of services like emergency shelter for children in crisis and helping children find permanent homes through foster care and adoption.

As the organizer of the Rawaj Fashion Extravaganza, Ayesha Zaheer, said, “This evening was a great way to expose San Antonio to some of the finest designers from around the country, while benefitting a noble cause. We hope to continue this tradition of giving back to the community in various ways, including fashion”.
