Join Silk Threads to Celebrate The Regal Radiance 2025

Silk Threads proudly invites you this November to a wonderful evening of elegance, compassion, and culture at its 13th Annual Charity Gala, The Regal Radiance. This event is taking place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Dallas Palms in Carrollton. Combining couture excellence with meaningful causes, this signature event offers an unforgettable celebration of Indian artistry and community spirit.

Every year, the Silk Threads Charity Gala brings together fashion enthusiasts, philanthropists, and community leaders in a shared objective of giving back. This year’s celebration will shine brighter than ever as the event is going to support two exceptional non-profit organizations, i.e., Aadhar and Akanksha Education Fund. The tireless work of these organizations uplifts lives through education and mental wellness.

Guests can look forward to an enchanting evening that symbolizes the lively soul of India. The festivities start with a luxurious cocktail reception, followed by a delectable multi-course dinner, and a silent auction including unique treasures and experiences. The highlight of the event night will be a breathtaking runway show, which showcases Silk Threads’ latest couture collection of beautiful Indian dresses and bespoke menswear. Every ensemble captures intricate craftsmanship, modern silhouettes, and the regal radiance of Indian tradition.

The evening will also offer opportunities to mingle with Dallas’ leading business professionals, community advocates, and cultural ambassadors—all coming together for a shared purpose: to make a tangible difference in the lives of others.

    Supporting Change through Compassion

This year, Silk Threads shines a light on two outstanding organizations, which reflect the brand’s values of empowerment and empathy.

Aadhar, which means “Support” in Hindi, is a community-based non-profit organization founded in 2024 by Dr. Sejal Mehta, a practicing psychiatrist. Aadhar is dedicated to encouraging mental wellness and emotional well-being, minimizing stigma surrounding mental health, and improving access to essential support resources. Through outreach programs and educational efforts, Aadhar serves individuals of all ages, including children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. The event underscores that mental health is a universal issue that transcends background or circumstance.

Akanksha Education Fund, with “Akanksha” translating to “aspiration,” promotes educational equality and opportunity among children from underserved communities throughout India. Akanksha has been transforming lives for over three decades through innovative public-private partnership schools in Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur. With effective school-to-work transitions and mentoring lifelong learners, Akanksha empowers more than 20,000 students to rise beyond generational limitations and pursue a purposeful, impactful lifestyle.

    Couture with a Cause

The Regal Radiance is a movement that combines creativity and compassion. Fashion becomes a powerful language of philanthropy as it unites the aesthetic beauty of Silk Threads’ designs with a deeper purpose to create awareness, hope, and opportunity.

As Silk Threads continues to enhance Indian fashion around the world, the brand aims to bridge between cultures and give back to the communities that inspire it. Every ticket purchased, every bid made, and every moment shared at the gala will significantly contribute to empowering minds, nurturing wellness, and creating lasting change.

  • Indian fashion designers face eco-chic dilemma

Indian fashion designers face eco-chic dilemma

At last month’s Lakmé Fashion Week in India, conversations about making fashion more sustainable took centre-stage. But are the country’s designers ready for this?

The four-day event – organised jointly by beauty company Lakmé, billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Brands and the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) – is one of Indian fashion’s biggest highlights.

While it had all the essential ingredients – glittering catwalks, clinking wine glasses and fashionistas in the front row – what grabbed eyeballs was a competition encouraging young designers to use eco-friendly materials to create outfits. The event is part of a wider ambition among Indian designers aiming to make sustainability the driving factor of their businesses.

  • The Fashionista Event of the Year!

The Fashionista Event of the Year!

The Fashionista event of the year – that is what one of the attendees called the Eighth Annual Silk Threads Charity Gala on Oct 14th. The event benefited the Asia Center at University of Dallas, and was held at the new Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center on UTD campus.

The morning started with an interview of Ruby Bhandari, CEO of Silk Threads, on Fox4 News, talking about the event and giving a sneak peek of what to expect.

The evening weather was perfect for the gala – clear skies, and pleasant – and the location was sparkling. The decor, provided by Decor by Faiza, was fabulous and matched the colorful theme – which was the influence of fashion on cinema. This year again saw a sold-out crowd of Dallas’ who’s-who come out dressed in their finest.

By 6:30 pm, everyone was in place, with volunteers and wait staff looking sharp dressed in black, the drink sponsors Kruto vodka, Ironroot Republic Gin and Bourbon, and Topo Chico, as well as food sponsors The Gardens Restaurant and Bombay Chopstix ready and waiting for the guests. A dessert table was setup inside the hall, featuring Indian sweets from Royal Sweets and pastries from Delicious Cakes.

The VIP reception started at 7 pm, with guests mingling, photographers busily clicking, and bloggers live-blogging. Quite a few of the local media personalities were present from organizations like Fox, ABC, TV Asia and Dallas Morning News.

The show itself was divided into multiple segments, showing the progression of fashion from 70’s to modern day, and the influence of Hollywood on Indian cinema to begin with, and how the trend has slightly reversed nowadays. Over 40 models from different agencies, including Bella Modeling School, participated in the show. Ruby Bhandari, the Chief Designer of Silk Threads, created different looks to highlight this underlying theme, and each of her pieces drew appreciation from the crowd.

The Master of Ceremonies was LeeAnn Locken, the star of Bravo TV’s Real Housewives of Dallas. The show was kicked off by a mesmerizing song by a local singer, Priyanka. LeeAnn kept the crowd entertained, as the models changed between segments.

Terry Gajraj, the famous Indo-Carribbean singer from New York, performed a song – his take on the famous “Om Shanti Om” song from a Bollywood movie, which really got the crowd in the mood. Terry was brought to Dallas by the Platinum Sponsor of the Gala, Pete Persaud Productions, which is also shooting a music video with Terry in Dallas.

The final segment was themed “The Monsoon Wedding“, which showcased the men’s and women’s bridal line from Ruby Bhandari. All the pieces in the line were head-turners, with attendees mentally booking some of the pieces for themselves.

The party wasn’t over yet. Outspoken Visions Entertainment and DJ Raj from Stereo Nation LA took over from here, and brought the crowd to their feet – dancing away till it was closing time!

This event raised more funds than any of Silk Threads’ previous Galas – and all proceeds are being used to setup a scholarship at UTD. As Sanjeeb Samanta, one of the guests, said “Great event!

I know it takes a lot to put these together and the amount of planning that goes into it. Your team did great and the designs and show was impressive. As an alum of UTD, thanks for supporting one of our programs. As an active leader in the DFW non-profit community, thank you for your compassion and generosity every year to support different causes and groups.

We need more people in the DFW community with your heart and will”!

Ruby Bhandari, CEO of Silk Threads said, ” Thanks to all our guests, volunteers and sponsors for their effort to provide educational opportunities for the needy. We are amazed at the support, and this is what keeps us trying to raise the bar for our events every year”.

  • Silk Threads Reveals Exclusive Design at Trunk Show/Sip & Style Event

Silk Threads Reveals Exclusive Design at Trunk Show/Sip & Style Event

At the end of September, Silk Threads was delighted to host an exclusive Trunk Show Exhibition and Sip & Style for bloggers, clients, and friends. For the first half of the event, Silk Threads clients gathered at the studio, mingled, and were treated with personal stylings in various Silk Threads designs.

Champagne, hor d’oeuvres, fashion, and glam all made up the essence of the occasion. Following the trunk show was a time for more mingling, especially with bloggers in the community, who were given the chance to browse the studio for their favorite pieces. Fashion designer Ruby Bhandari was proud and impressed with the curiosity exhibited by visitors, who not only seemed intrigued by the aesthetics of the designs, but also the culture by which they were inspired.

Silk Threads Partners with Aanushkil Designer Jewelry

Silk Threads partnered with Aanushkil Designer Jewelry for the show, with an entire room of tables iced completely in unique and mesmerizing jewels. Visitors awed at the earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings, which were all made up of semi precious stones set in sterling silver, as well as other designer jewelry sourced from all over India and the Far East.

Caught by the brightness of the genuine jewelry designs, Dallas blogger and jewelry business owner Kathleen DeNooyer of DeNooyer Designs brought up an interesting point regarding Indian and Far Eastern designs being worn here in the US: Cultural Appreciation vs. Cultural Appropriation.

“As an artist and human being, to find inspiration to create beauty, you must open your mind and pursue things that are different,” DeNooyer said. “In that way, an artist must absorb the world outside their sphere and implement it into who they are and what they create. I think that’s different than appropriation, which is just yanking something from a culture/thing that you do not understand, nor have experienced.”

Aanushkil Designer Jewelry Owner Disha (Sapna) Thadani agreed with DeNooyer, saying that she’s inspired, rather than offended.

“When I see others out there wearing jewelry and clothing like what you see here by me and Ruby, it inspires me,” Thadani said. “It makes me proud and makes me feel like there’s appreciation across the board. Jewelry and accessorizing is an art form. I’ve always felt that people who wear a simple black shirt with blue jeans and put on a piece that is cross-cultural, are crossing borders and showing that there is beauty in every corner of the earth. It’s how you use the pieces to show how you appreciate it. It brings out your individuality, and it’s appreciation and flattery of the highest form.”

Emerald Green With Envy: Ruby’s Exclusive Sneak Peek

To wrap up the day’s festivities, guests and bloggers all sat down for a quick runway reveal and sneak peek at one of Ruby’s new designs. The gown, which is a strong and bold emerald green, is made of draped chiffon with custom beading and lace embroidered at the neckline. The design will also hit the runway October 14th for the 8th Annual Silk Threads Charity Fashion Event: Bollywood to Hollywood.

To see more designs by fashion icon and designer Ruby Bhandari, join us at the upcoming Bollywood to Hollywood event this month.

Crow 31 Days: I Have a Few Rubies in My Closet

by Amy Lewis Hofland, Executive Director, Crow Collection of Asian Art

(For those of you who don’t know Amy, she is the smiling face at the Crow Collection museum in the Dallas Arts District, a hidden gem. They have several extraordinary pieces in their permanent collection, including a red sandstone wall from a fort in Rajasthan, India! They host several visiting artists from all over Asia several times a year, and have programs like wellness and yoga classes. The location can also be rented for exclusive events. We have been fortunate to work with them over the years, and Amy and her team have always been gracious and accommodating.

This surprise, unedited, blog post floored us…we love you, Amy!)

Her name is Ruby Bhandari. She is part lightning bug, part butterfly, part unicorn: you’ve never met anyone like her. Mysteriously she never sleeps, and miraculously she can draw something in Dallas, Texas and within hours, a sewing machine in New Delhi, India is bring it to form. Ruby is magic.

I met Ruby and her amazing husband Raj for the second time though their magnanimous offer to create a fashion show for our members at the museum over 15 years ago. We are convinced we met years earlier on the campus of the University of Texas as we both served on the Cabinet of College Councils. It is the kind of friendship where–when we met “officially” we all felt like we’d known each other forever.

Ruby is a dear friend, but Ruby is also an accomplished fashion designer and entrepreneur. She started her company Silk Threads while still as student at UT. She is the epitome of tenacity.

Ruby works two shifts for two time zones: telecommuting with India has it’s challenges. She fills her day meeting with clients in Dallas, working on her many distribution projects, designing the next season and building the business.

Walking into the showroom is better than Alice in Wonderland. Ruby has a team of devoted employees–and she pops in and out between calls and clients to offer a style or a color: she knows how to create something ravishing.

Her confidence is magnetic: I’ve walked in planning just to stop by and say hello. I’ve walked out with mid-riff bearing sarees, jewelry, salwar kameez, gowns fit for royalty and two tunics commissioned for the opening of our sculpture garden.

She is a marketing genius, a talented businesswoman and simply impossible to say “no” to. Once you see the Ruby, you are part of a marvelous elixir: an intoxicating concoction of joy, glamour and fun. Ruby dressed me for an engagement party, several local galas, a fashion show and several evenings with the Asia Society at the Tiger Ball in Houston. She even dressed me for the opening of an exhibition we supported in New Delhi-sending her cousin to our hotel for a last-minute fitting. Ruby was thousands of miles away on the phone: designing by satellite.

Ruby’s success has been earned: over 25 years of grit and courage. She is recognized as one of the first designers to bring Indian fashion to the region. Raj has been a guiding light in their partnership and in their business. This is one of my favorite Power Couples in Dallas.

A visit to the Silk Threads showroom will not disappoint. Plan to spend a few hours sifting through the gowns, and do not be afraid to try something bold. Be like Alice in this wonderland and drink it all up. I promise you’ll walk out smiling. And you just might find a few Rubies in your closet, too.

  • How Bollywood influences South Asian American Weddings

How Bollywood influences South Asian American Weddings

Karan Johar has probably had more impact on our weddings than anyone else in recent history” – states a recent article in The Hindu.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Karan Johar, he is a prolific Bollywood producer/director/writer and talk show host, who films show over the top wedding glamour – which in turn has shaped the nuptial ideas of a whole generation of South Asian Americans.

A great quote in the article from a wedding planner: “In fact, I once organised a Tamil Brahmin wedding where the bride was so influenced by Bollywood movies that she wanted a Punjabi  jago  as part of the event. This is where the aunt dances with a pot of lamps on her head. We had to bring in  dholaks  and train the aunt to dance…”

We asked Ruby Bhandari, Chief Designer at the Dallas-based fashion company Silk Threads, about what she sees trending with new brides and grooms.

“South Asian wedding culture is ever evolving”, Ruby says. “We see new brides on a weekly basis, and most of them are second generation South Asian Americans – they may have had infrequent trips to India when they were younger, but now they rely on popular Bollywood movies to guide them from a fashion perspective. In addition, these movies are also heavy on so-called wedding customs (or Rivaaz) – which creates a co-mingling of the culture and traditions behind the wedding – leading to some interesting outcomes. We also get a lot of inter-racial weddings, where we factor in choices of both sides for their wedding trousseaus and menswear”

In fact, Bollywood has created a whole ecosystem around South Asian American weddings – a visit to any of the South Asian American themed Bridal Shows will show a host of vendors showing beautiful wedding decor – from traditional to minimalistic modern – as well as standard, but fusion, trappings of any wedding – from wedding cards to favors to food.

As the article concludes, “Irrespective of the kind of marriage — interracial or within communities — one thing is clear. while the path to marriage in the Indian-American context can be distinctly different from a true Indian matrimonial experience, at the end of the day the quest for a “happily ever after” remains the same…”

Now all we need is ShahRukh Khan…
